Making Hydraulic Hoses
|Mine Type: All|
|Category: Maintenance, Longwalls, Mobile Equipment, and General Safety|
A crucial part of hydraulic hose safety depends on the care taken when fabricating the hose assemblies. Failure of a pressurized hose assembly creates a potential for personal injury to equipment operators or anyone working near the equipment, fire, and equipment damage.
Fabricating techniques to minimize hydraulic hose failures include:
- Do not inter-mix manufacturers. Use the same manufacturer's products for all parts of the assembly (end fittings, hose, etc.) and make sure you use the corresponding manufacturer's hose machine for crimping.
- Know the crimp specifications to include:
1) Type of hose
2) Type of end(s) approved for the hose
3) Correct die for crimping
4) Correct crimp setting
5) Allowable finished crimp outer diameter (O.D.)
