COAL MINE FATALITY - On July 26, 1995, at 7:00 p.m., an electrician was electrocuted while working on the mine's underground electric power system as a part of the work to rehabilitate the mine. Two electricians were in the process of connecting a high voltage power cable from a newly installed section power center to a net transformer. After entering the power cable into the section power center, the two miners traveled outby and separated, one traveling to retrieve the mantrip, and the other to the energized belt transformer location. When the electrician who retrieved the mantrip arrived at the belt transformer location, he found the lid to the transformer box opened and the other electrican lying on the mine floor beside the transformer. The victim had contacted an energized circuit inside the transformer box.

This is the 22nd coal mine fatality in 1995. As of July 26 last year there had been 27 fatalities. This death is the third death classified as ELECTRICAL in 1995.
