METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On December 24, 1995, a development miner with 11 years of
mining experience was killed at a copper mine. There were
no witnesses to the accident. The employee was hauling
copper ore to the crusher on the surface. He was
discovered on the main ramp lying about six feet behind
the truck he was operating. His upper body was crushed
indicating that he was run over by his truck. This is the
50th fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal
and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994,
there were 40 fatalities reported in these industries.
This is the 17th fatality classified as powered haulage
this year. There were 15 powered haulage fatalities
during the same period in 1994.
