COAL MINE FATALITY - On Thursday, February 15, 1996, a scoop operator was tramming a scoop hauling concrete blocks for stopping and rock dust near the mouth of the section. While negioating a cross cut where the entry height was about 35 inches, the scoop passed close to the rib line. The scoop operator's head was caught between the rib and the scoop resulting in fatal injuries.

This is the sixth coal mine fatality in 1996. As of February 15 of last year, there had been 3 fatalities. This death is the first classified as POWERED HAULAGE in 1996.
