COAL MINE FATALITY - On Tuesday, September 1, 1998, a 36-year-old truck driver who was operating a 50-ton Cline truck failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the haul road. The truck traveled through a berm and into a 20 foot deep ditch. The driver received head and neck injuries when he was thrown from the truck. He died on September 13, 1998, of the injuries sustained during the accident.
This is the 21st fatality reported in calendar year 1998 in the coal mining industry. As of this date in 1997, there were 23 fatalities. This is the seventh fatality classified as powered haulage in 1998. For more information: |
