| Rod joined the Avery Island Mine Rescue team in 1974 where he remained active for 20 years. During his tenure with the team, he held virtually every position and became team trainer in 1981. He participated in every regional and national contest held between 1974 and 1994. Rod served on one of the teams that responded to the Belle Isle Mine disaster in 1979. Because of his dedication and leadership, all five victims were recovered. His team also responded to the Retsof, NY mine disaster in 1994. |  |
