Preventive Roof/Rib Outreach Program
PROP 2015
Improvements in roof control technology have led to a significant reduction in roof fall accidents and fatalities. Despite these gains, roof and rib falls continue to be a leading cause of accidents and injuries in underground coal mines. In 2014, nearly 300 miners were injured from roof and rib falls. Nearly all of these accidents occurred while the miners were under supported top. With this in mind, MSHA’s 2015 Preventive Roof/Rib Outreach Program (PROP) will focus on roof and rib fall accidents occurring in supported areas. Informational posters and hard hat stickers, posted below, will be distributed to underground miners and mine operators.
