Stay Out! Stay Alive!
Incidents that could have resulted in a fatality, but did not.
An elderly man falls in a quarry in Marion County.
When Marion County's firefighters first arrived on scene they found the man fell fallen 35 feet into a wooded quarry. To remove the the man, team members created a rope rescue system which enabled them to move him from the bottom of the quarry to safety at the top, with the aid of ropes.
This technique, is a high line transverse rescue, that is considered to be one of the most complex types of rope rescues due to the high level of tension that is placed on the ropes. The rescue was successful and the patient was removed from the quarry at 1:38 p.m.
Because the patient complained of back pain and numbness in one leg, firefighters called a trauma alert. The patient was flown to Shands Healthcare upon removal from the quarry.
