Rock Fall

Recently, an area mine employee was keeping the miner cable pulled back as the machine was tramming out of the cut. A rock, approximately 16 feet long by 3 feet wide by 8 inches thick, fell from the roof, striking the tail of the miner and then striking the employee. The injured received contusions to the head, neck, and back and shattered vertebrae.

  • Be aware of roof and rib conditions at all times.
  • When adverse roof conditions are encountered, additional measures should be taken to ensure the safety of miners.
