COAL MINE FATALITY - On Wednesday May 24, 1995, a bulldozer operator ws fatally injured when he fell from a stacker belt structure. The mine was in the process of abandoning, and a rigid stacker belt structure had been scheduled for dismantling. The dozer operator was positioned above the belt structure support legs utilizing a cutting torch. When four bolts holding the main structure were cut through, the upper portion of the belt structure dropped suddenly, causing the miner to fall 18 feet to the ground. The fatally injured miner was not wearing a safety belt.

This is the 16th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of May 24 last year there had been 18 fatalities. This death is the third classified as FALL OF PERSON in 1995.
