COAL MINE FATALITY - On August 6, 1995, at 10:10 a.m., a maintenance foreman, with 21 years mining experience, was fatally injured in an electrical accident. A miner was welding at the headgate when he complained of insufficient power. The maintenace foreman went to the welding macine located about 150 feet away in the intake entry of the No. 1 longwall. The welding machine was not de-energized and locked out. The maintenace foreman removed the top panel and reached into the welding machine to work on the rheostat. The victim was electrocuted when he contaced bare energized 575 volt conductor terminals.

This is the 24th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of August 6 last year there had been 28 fatalities. This death is the fourth classified as ELECTRICAL in 1995.
