METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On May 12, 1995, a water hauler (contractor employee) with eight weeks of mining
experience was killed at a gold pit. The employee was
descending a pit ramp in a water truck loaded with 400-
gallons of water. He apparently lost control of the truck
causing the truck to roll several times. The victim died
from sustained injuries. This is the 16th fatality
reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal
mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were 15
fatalities reported in these industries. This death is
the seventh fatality classified as powered haulage this
year. There were six powered haulage fatalities during
the same period in 1994.
