METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On September 7, 1995, an underground mechanic with nearly
three years of mining experience was killed at a potash
mine. The employee was in the process of providing
temporary electrical power to a welding machine. He was
found holding an energized 480-volt cable to the intake
face fan. He died from electrocution. This is the 29th
fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and
nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994,
there were 30 fatalities reported in these industries.
This death is the second fatality classified as electrical
this year. There was one electrical fatality during the
same period in 1994.
