METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On February 6, 1996, a laborer with nine months of mining experience was killed at a granite quarry. There were no witnesses to the accident. The employee was clearing snow from the paved area around the tertiary crusher using a Case Uniloader. He was found with his chest caught between the raised lift arm of the bucket and the rollover protective structure on the Uniloader. He died from crushing injuries. This is the third fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were six fatalities reported in these industries. This death is third fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There was also three powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1995.
