METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On April 26, 1996, a plant operator with 5 years of mining experience was killed at a crushed stone quarry. The employee came in contact with a metal building which had become energized by a 480 volt power cable coming from the plant generator. He died from electrocution. This is the 15th fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were also 15 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the first fatality classified as electrical this year. There was also one electrical fatality during the same period in 1995.
