METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On May 7, 1996, an operator/feedman with 19 months of mining experience was killed at a crushed stone quarry. The employee was helping to set up two portable crushers. One crusher was in place. When the second crusher was backed into place, it crushed the employee between the two crusher units. The victim died from crushing injuries. This is the 16th fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were 15 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the third fatality classified as machinery this year. There were two machinery fatalities during the same period in 1995.
