METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On May 10, 1996, a plant foreman with 12 years of mining experience was killed at a limestone quarry. There were no witnesses to the accident. The victim was found lying on the ground under the elevated crusher he had been working on. It is presumed that he slipped off the crusher and fell 15 feet to the ground. This is the 20th fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were 15 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the first fatality classified as slip or fall of person this year. There were no slip or fall of person fatalities during the same period in 1995.
