METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On June 19, 1996, a customer truck driver was killed at a sand and gravel operation. Two customer truck drivers were standing outside their trucks talking while waiting in line to get their trucks loaded with material. A R35 Euclid haul truck, on its way to pick up a load, ran over the two customers. One customer was severely injured; the other customer died from crushing injuries. This is the 25th fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were 21 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the ninth fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There were eight powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1995.
