METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On November 5, 1996, a laborer with 9 months of mining experience was killed at a limestone quarry. There were no witnesses to the accident. The employee was driving a haul truck and went off the road into a water-filled section of the quarry. The truck and the employee were found under water. It is assumed the victim drowned. This is the 42nd fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were 43 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the 15th fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There were 14 powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1995.
