METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On April 10, 1997, an electrical supervisor with 32 years of mining experience was killed at a copper mine. The employee was electrocuted while working on an energized 300 kva, 4,160/480 volt pad-mounted electrical transformer. It appeared he was dusting off the inside of the cabinet when he contacted the energized components. This is the 21st fatality reported in calendar year 1997 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1996, there were 12 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the first fatality classified as electrical in 1997. There were no electrical fatalities during the same period in 1996.
