METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY- On July 25, 1999, a 61-year-old plant repairman with 24 years of mining experience was fatally injured while directing clean up operations in a concentrator building at a Iron mine. He was directing an employee who was operating a skid-steer clean up loader and was run over by the loader.

  • Mobile equipment must be directed from a safe distance
  • This is the 26th fatality reported in calendar year 1999 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1998, there were 31 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the 8th fatality classified as Powered Haulage in 1999. There were 12 Powered Haulage fatalities in the same period in 1998.
