Safe access should be provided and maintained to all areas were persons work or travel.
Openings near travelways should be protected by railings or barriers.
Hazards which are not obvious to persons should be barricaded or warning signs posted.
This is the 10th fatality reported in calendar year 2000 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1999, there were 14 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the second fatality classified as Slip/Fall of Person in 2000. There was one Slip/Fall ofPerson fatality in the same period in 1999.
