METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On June 14, 2003, a 25-year repair crew foreman, with 4� years experience, was fatally injured at a sand and gravel operation. The victim was positioning a wedge bar to secure the upper liner plate in a stationary jaw crusher. Apparently the liner shifted and fell, striking the victim. ![]() Best Practices
This is the 12th fatality reported in calendar year 2003 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2002, there were 19 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the fifth fatality classified as Machinery in 2003. There were seven Machinery fatalities in the same period in 2002.
