COAL MINE FATALITY - On Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at approximately 12:10 a.m., a 26-year-old truck driver with 2 years of mining experience was fatally injured when the truck he was driving slid over an embankment on the mine haul road and overturned.

Observe all speed limits, traffic rules, and ensure that grades on haulage roads are appropriate for haulage equipment being used. Provide and maintain adequate berms and other barriers of mid-axel height for roadways where a drop-off exists. Never operate a truck or other mobile equipment without using a seat belt. Maintain equipment braking systems in good repair and adjustment.
This is the 23rd coal mining fatality in calendar year 2005. As of this date in 2004, there were 23 fatalities reported in coal mining. This is the eighth fatality classified as powered haulage in 2005. There were eight fatalities in this category at this time in 2004.
