GERALD MYERS

Gerald began his mine rescue career at Morton Salt's Weeks Island Mine as a member of their first mine rescue team. He served on that team until 2000. During his tenure, Gerald served as a mapman for 25 years and then assumed the roll of fresh air base attendant, trainer and advisor. Gerald's team participated in regional and national contests winning several regional championships and always placing well in the national contests. He has been involved in several mine rescue operations which included victim recovery, gas inundations, and fires. Although Gerald recently retired from a long career in mining, he continues to support mine rescue. He has always been an inspiration, mentor and friend to his colleagues and fellow team members.
