A Meriden man falls 100 feet to his death in a hiking accident

HAMDEN (AP) - A 24-year-old rock climber from Meriden has died after falling from a quarry at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden Saturday. The State Department of Environmental Protection Police were called about 3:45 p.m. They determined that Adam Barnes had fallen while scaling the loose rock surface of the quarry. It is considered dangerous for climbing. D-E-P Police Sargeant James Warren says not even experienced climbers climb there. But he isn't sure if there are signs warning people to stay away. State police were called to investigate, but Sargeant J. Paul Vance says the death appears to be accidental and there is no indication of foul play. (Source: Associated Press)
