Accident Information File

The bodies of two men were pulled from a Hancock Co., Ind. gravel pit, where they drowned after trying to retrieve two all-terrain vehicles from the 25-foot-deep water. How the vehicles ended up in the lake and why the 37- and 20-year-old victims drowned remain a mystery, according to the county sheriff. Autopsy reports indicated that both men had been drinking. According to local law enforcement, the quarries in the area are dangerous because the water often is shallow near the shore but drops off suddenly. That, combined with alcohol consumption, can prove deadly. (Source: Indianapolis Star)
