| Art began his mining career in Telluride, Colorado, in 1967. He began his mine rescue career by donning a McCaa apparatus in 1975 at the Henderson Mine. Since then, Art has consistently served on mine rescue teams as a captain and benchman, coordinator and team trainer. His teams have consistently placed well in regional and national competitions as he participated as a competing benchman. To his credit, Art is still listed in every Metal and Nonmetal National Mine Rescue Contest Rule book for his championship bench performances in 1982 and 1986.
