STONEY HOTARD Stoney began his mine rescue career in 1968 with the formation of the first team at Morton Salt's Weeks Island Mine. He became the first Team Captain and Benchman and also held the positions of Rear Captain and Assistant Team Trainer. Stoney has participated in every mine rescue competition in the Southern Region and in every National Metal and Nonmetal competition since the beginning. He has also been involved in several mine rescue operations which included victim recovery, gas inundations, and mine fires. He continues to actively serve as Rear Captain, Benchman, and Assistant Team Trainer. Stoney's loyalty and commitment to the mine rescue community has always been uncompromised. His career serves as a benchmark for all mine rescue participants. |
