KENNY HEATER

Kenny began his mining career in 1979 at the Dravo Maysville Mine. His involvement in mine rescue started in 1985. His first National Metal & Non-metal mine rescue competition was in
1986.  Since then Kenny has participated in several national and regional contests. As a team member, his team placed in the top five on six different National M/NM mine rescue contests while placing, including first place, in several regional contests.  His team was the first National Champion first aid team at the National Mine Rescue Contest in 2000, and in 2002 as well.
 
During Kenny's last 38 years, he has encountered and dealt with mine events including fires, roof falls, gas, water, structural failures, electrical hazards, and victim recovery. Kenny has trained and served on various mine rescue positions. During his career, he has lead efforts to improve mine rescue, including the increasing of resources, motivation, involvement, and training at the Maysville mine. He participated in the recovery from water inundation at the Maysville mine in 1980. He was also involved in a belt conveyor fire at the Maysville mine in 1986, and truck fire at the mine in 1998.  He was a member of the recovery team of an individual involved in a major roof fall at the mine in 1993. His team served as the backup team for a fire at the Black River mine in 2006.
