LYNN BAYARD

Lynn Bayard began his Mine Rescue career in 1990 at the Avery Island Mine operated by AXZO Salt at the time. Lynn spent most of his Mine Rescue career at the Avery Mine, now operated by Cargill Deicing Technology. He spent 14 years as the Captain of the Salty Cajuns while holding the responsibility of trainer during that same time period. Lynn has held the positions of Fresh Air Base, Rear Captain, First Aid, Captain and Trainer throughout his career. Lynn still is following his passion for miner's safety and Mine Rescue today as a contracted trainer. He still represents the Southern Regional Mine Rescue Association on the National Mine Rescue Advisory Board and the Joseph A Holmes Mine Rescue Board. He participated in 4 mine emergencies including: the New Year’s Eve ANFO rig fire, two scaling rig fires, and a service loader fire.

Lynn, also has responded to the needs of countless miners at Avery and others away from work in need of first aid treatment. Lynn has a strong passion for first aid and has volunteered often in the community sharing his knowledge, including being on the community's Emergency Response Team. Lynn has either participated or lead his team through more than 30 regional competitions and 10 national competitions, including the 2004 International contest in Poland where he held the role of Captain. His teams have taking home the Dwight C Bonin Award and the Salt Institutes Traveling Trophy many times, as well as overall Champion for 2013 in the Southern Regional Mine Rescue Contests. Lynn's exemplary service and dedication to Mine Rescue has been and continues to be an inspiration to all of the Mine Rescue family.
