Edward (Eddie) Lopez



Eddie has over 40 years of experience in the mining industry with many of those years dedicated to improving mine emergency operations. His MSHA career began in 1992 as a Metal and Nonmetal Inspector and from there excelled as Field Office Supervisor, Assistant District Manager and ultimately District Manager for Metal and Nonmetal’ South Central District Office. He left MSHA in April 2013, to join Freeport-McMoRan Morenci as their Health & Safety Manager in Arizona where he resides today.

Throughout his mining career Eddie has supported mine rescue development at the mine, regional, national and international levels. He served on the National Metal and Nonmetal Mine Rescue Advisory Committee and as Chairman of the Committee that arranged the National Mine Rescue Training Contest. His efforts and support with Mine Rescue Training Contests were second to none from the very beginning. He coordinated, designed, worked, and facilitated Mine Rescue Training Contest while nurturing Mine Rescue improvement every step of the way. He inspired the cooperation of those that worked with him to include the mining industry and provided the leadership that resulted in numerous successful contests. His contributions have supported improved readiness for mine emergencies by continuing to assist the mining industry's response to mine emergencies and mine emergency operations.
