The headlight switch is used to control the four headlights on board the machine. Permissibility requirements pertaining to permissible electrical equipment also apply to electrical components installed on diesel equipment. The cover of the headlight switch needs to be secured in place with bolts, and lock washers and the plane flange joint formed by attachment of the cover to the box needs to be checked with a feeler gauge not exceeding .005-inch. The packing glands need to be properly packed and assembled so that 1/8-inch minimum clearance is maintained between the packing nut and stuffing box. The conduit needs to be in good condition, free of damaged places, etc.
